General information
In Japan (Japanese: Nippon/Nihon) some 127 million people live on a landmass of 377,930 square kilometres. The national territory is spread over four main islands, which are surrounded by about 4,000 smaller islands.
The capital Tokyo forms the world’s largest metropolitan region with the cities of Yokohama and Kawasaki; the total population of the region is around 35 million.
The official language is Japanese.
